Trying Cikera: My Experience with Ukrainian Honey Wine
First Impressions
I recently tried a honey wine from Ukraine called Cikera. The bottle looked pretty fancy with its sleek black design and gold accents. The label said "медова червона," which means honey mead in Ukrainian. I was excited to try something new and traditional.
Tasting Cikera
Cikera comes in two variants, but unfortunately, neither was a hit for me:
- The Red Wine Variant:
- Look: It had a deep red color, similar to regular red wine.
- Smell: The aroma was slightly sweet, hinting at honey.
- Taste: It tasted exactly like a typical red wine but with way too many tannins. It wasn't enjoyable at all.
- The Pink White Wine Variant:
- Look: This one had a lovely pink color.
- Smell: The aroma was floral but not very sweet.
- Taste: The taste was bitter and sour, with only a faint hint of honey. It was pretty unpleasant overall.
The Aftermath
After trying both variants, I ended up with a headache. Maybe it was the natural sugars or the fermentation process, but it didn't sit well with me.
Conclusion
Cikera honey wine was a disappointment. The red wine variant was too tannic, and the pink white wine variant was bitter and sour. If you're curious about honey wine, you might want to try other brands or variants first. For me, Cikera didn't live up to the hype. Cheers to trying new things, even if they don't always work out!
